NSW Health advises using water collected in rainwater tanks for non-drinking uses, such as flushing toilets, washing cars and clothes, watering gardens, filling swimming pools, spas and ornamental ponds and fire fighting. Rainwater can also be used in hot water systems.

Gosford and Wyong councils offer a rebate of $150-$500 to encourage residents and businesses to install rainwater tanks and take the pressure off the Central Coast water supply.

Rainwater tanks must be installed by a licensed plumber if for indoor use and the rebate for Central Coast households and businesses is subject to council inspections and terms and conditions.
